The Clos de la Torre extra virgin olive oil produced and elaborated entirely by hand by the company Oleícola del Empordà de Rabós d'Empordà has accentuated its commitment to export and can now be found in shops and restaurants in Japan.
The company has closed an agreement with a Tokyo gourmet product distribution company to export its product to this East Asian country for the first time and expects that, once consolidated, this new market will represent 30% of its exports.
“This agreement fills us with satisfaction and encourages us to continue on the path of a job well done, working in the bioeconomy of the world of olive groves, taking care of the socioeconomic aspects of our activity and ensuring the sustainability of the heritage represented by the cultivation of olive trees. ”, explained Martí Clos, manager of Clos de la Torre.
In his opinion, "Japan is a very interested market for the olive oil culture and highly appreciates the sensory attributes of the product as well as its healthy values and its contribution to the Mediterranean diet. It is also a market that appreciates gourmet products and delicacies”.
The manager has ensured that in his company they apply "the knowledge economy and we are committed to differentiated quality and food safety, which we can guarantee due to the fact that we exclusively make the oil with the olives produced on our own farms, which generates a high value to our product.
Until now, Clos de la Torre was present in northern European countries such as Denmark and the United Kingdom, and the United States, through the luxury food chain Zingerman's Delicatessen in Michigan.
In 2019, the oil from this small, high-end Empordà winery was introduced to the Middle East through contacts with firms in Dubai and Doha to export the product, and also to the Philippines and Singapore and, currently, they are working to export also to countries like Austria and Germany.
"The consumer of our oil is very demanding and seeks the best product, this makes the consumption of Clos de la Torre selective in the extra virgin olive oil market. That is why we have distribution in different countries, with a clear international vocation, serving the best distributors and customers”, says Martí Clos.
The manager maintains that his most immediate objectives are "to consolidate and, if possible, expand international distribution and that some contacts that we are working on to open markets in other countries bear fruit."
Oleícola del Empordà produces a high-end oil and another for local consumption and they make olive oil from green and black olives, and organic oil.
These products are aimed at gourmet and delicatessen markets, specialized stores and catering establishments. "Consumers value quality oils more and more because they are exquisite and add unique aromas and flavors to any dish, raw or cooked," Clos points out.
Clos de la Torre oil is produced exclusively by harvesting olives from the company's farms located in Garriguella, Rabós d'Empordà, Espolla and Peralada to have the absolute guarantee that they are of the highest quality.
The extra virgin olive oil Clos de la Torre, very fruity, with great balance and very rich in aromas and tastes, is made with 3 varieties of olive: the argudell (native of the Empordà), the picual (of Andalusian origin) and the frantoio ( from Italian Tuscany) and is packaged in dark glass bottles and metal cans to protect it from light.
The company, owned by one of the families with the longest olive growing tradition in the region, began its modern trajectory 27 years ago -its manager is the fourth generation-, in 2011 a winery was built in Rabós d'Empordà and last year it had a turnover of about of 300,000 euros.
Clos de la Torre extra virgin olive oil accumulates a large number of awards and recognitions.
